Hola! I'm Angela 👋
I've been giving Teotihuacan tours for over half a decade...
And one of the first questions I see people ask in different Facebook groups is...
"Angela, how much does it cost to visit Teotihuacan?"
So if you're trying to budget for your Teotihuacan visit... you're in exactly the right place!
Because I'm going to break down ALL the costs - from the cheapest DIY option to premium private tours, plus all the hidden expenses most people don't think about.
Teotihuacan Entrance Fee 2026
Let's start with the baseline costs - because no matter what option you take you're going to have to pay this:
Teotihuacan entrance ticket costs:
- $210MXN ($12 USD) for foreigners
- $105MXN ($6 USD) for Mexicans
- Children under 13, students/teachers with valid ID, and seniors over 60 with INAPAM credentials get in FREE
You can get tickets at the entrance or online from the INAH official website.
Now for transportation to Teotihuacan there are a few options and cost levels.
I wrote a guide on the different options for how to get to the Teotihuacan pyramids from Mexico City, but lets go over the costs for each too:
- Option 1: The budget DIY approach
- Option 2: Uber/Taxi
- Option 3: Group Tour
- Option 4: Private Tour
- Option 5: Hot Air Balloon + Tour Combo
Option 1: The Budget DIY Approach
If you want to do Teotihuacan as cheaply as possible, here's how:
Bus from Mexico City: $80 MXN ($4-5 USD) each way
Entrance fee: $210 MXN ($12 USD)
Food/water: $200-300 MXN (~$10-15 USD)
Total cost: ~$600-700 MXN ($30-40 USD)
The reality: You'll spend about 4-5 hours total on transportation, you'll be looking at pyramids without understanding what they are, and you'll probably be exhausted by the end. But hey, it's cheap!
Option 2: Uber There & Back
Uber each way: $550-800 MXN ($30-45 USD)
Entrance fee: $210 MXN ($12 USD)
Food: $200-300 MXN (~$10-15 USD)
Total cost: ~$1,300-1,800 MXN ($70-90 USD)
This is more convenient than the bus, but you're paying almost as much as a guided tour... and you still don't know what you're looking at when you get there. Plus, getting an Uber back can be tricky — sometimes you wait forever!
Option 3: Teotihuacan Group Tour
Total cost: ~$900-1,500 MXN ($50-90 USD)
Most group tours include transportation both ways, entrance fees, a guide, and sometimes lunch. This usually makes the most sense for people — you get transportation, learn about what you're seeing, and don't have to worry about logistics.
My group tours start at $1,100 MXN and include everything except lunch (but I take you to great local restaurants where the meals aren't too pricey!).
Option 4: Teotihuacan Private Tour
Total cost: ~$2,400-3,000+ MXN ($140-175+ USD) per person
Private tours vary depending on group size, what's included, guide quality, and vehicle type. If you're a group of 5+ people, private tours often aren't much more expensive per person than group tours — but you get a completely customized experience.
My private tours are $2,800 MXN (~$160 USD) per person with a discount for groups of 5+ — includes pickup/dropoff, all fees, and a fully personalized experience.
Option 5: Hot Air Balloon + Tour Combo
Total cost: ~$3,300-5,000 MXN ($190-250 USD)
This includes a hot air balloon flight over the pyramids, guided tour afterwards, transportation, and sometimes breakfast. This is the premium experience — you're literally flying above the pyramids during sunrise. It's pretty amazing.
I offer hot air balloon + tour combos here if you're interested in booking one.
Hidden Costs Most People Don't Think About
Food and Drinks
At the pyramids: $150-300 MXN ($8-15 USD) for basic snacks and water
Local restaurants: $300-600 MXN ($15-30 USD) for a good meal and drinks
Pro tip: Bring your own water! You'll need lots of it.
Tips
For guides: $200-400 MXN ($10-20 USD) is standard
For drivers: $50-150 MXN ($3-7 USD) if separate from guide
Souvenirs
Small items: $50-200 MXN ($3-10 USD)
Obsidian jewelry/art: $200-1,000+ MXN ($10-50+ USD)
The obsidian crafts are really beautiful and unique to the area!

How to Save Money on Teotihuacan Tours
Book Direct When Possible
Platforms like GetYourGuide and Viator take big commissions, which means you either pay more or the guide makes less (affecting quality). Booking directly with the tour operator gets you the best price.
Read What's Actually Included
Some "cheap" tours don't include transportation, entrance fees, lunch, or hotel pickup. Factor in all costs when comparing — a $900 tour that includes everything is often cheaper than a $600 tour that doesn't include transport or tickets.
Consider Group Size
Smaller groups usually mean better experiences, even if they cost a bit more. A guide splitting attention between 6 people vs. 30 makes a real difference.
Want an Amazing Teotihuacan Tour?
